Sunday Brunch with Herself
This weekend was devoted nearly entirely to fandom (I was up at 9 and not home until midnight on Saturday), and so to continue the trend I had brunch with herself_nyc. I live all the way uptown in Northern Manhattan, so I hopped the train and headed on down to the West Village to pay her a visit. It was a beautiful day, if not a bit chilly and breezy. I was delighted to find upon walking in to her apartment a naughty little porny tableau she created of her Spike and Angel dolls on top of her TV. The boys looked like they were quite enjoying themselves!

The boys sharing an intense moment...

Drat! They twigged to my presence!

Herself, Traddles, and me at the Charles St. Pier. It was hella windy, as you can see.

I also got to meet the lovely Miss Traddles, who later accompanied us to the Charles St. pier after brunch. Over pancakes and a tuna fish sandwich, we discussed fanfic, writing, New York, etc. The conversation was fantastic and after going over some ideas with Herself on my current short WIP "All Wrong," she had some very helpful suggestions about pacing and plotting.

After we parked ourselves at the pier for a bit, jdkitchen recovered enough from his hangover the previous day to meet us. I had to head to Bleeker St. to meet my co-writer for the journalism story I'm working on, so after a stop for strawberry lemonade at a local coffee joint, I bid Herself, Lostboy and Traddles farewell. When I got to Shea's apartment, we put on our editing hats and tackled the article, which had to loose about 1000 words. I've never edited an article with another journalist and it was just so great. We were totally vibing off each other and did two passes in an hour and a half. You know you're getting all geeky when you start chatting about the finer points of AP style and compare fiction notebooks. Apparently, LB finds it quaint and charming that I write many of the scenes in my fics by hand in a notebook I carry about with me. My commute to work is an hour one way, so my subway ride is usually the best time to try and hash out ideas.

After leaving Shea's at around 4, the weather was nice and I took a walk from Bleeker and Morton, which is not too far from West 4th St, to 34th St. and 8th. That's where Madison Square Garden is located and is a pretty good walk at that.

Well, I didn't really have a hangover, truth be told. It was more the shock of waking up stark-nude next to my ex (and, on the wrong river) that spoiled my brunch plans. Still, I'm glad I was able to hook up with you two for a bit. Extremely edifying stuff,.and Herself was a treat-and-a-half to rap with.

Only a treat and a half? I'd think I was at least two treats' worth ....
ClawofCat: Illyriafaceclawofcat on July 4th, 2007 04:14 am (UTC)
Miss Traddles definately pushed it to treats and a doggy biscuit's worth. I hope the little lady is doing well after her vet trip. I freely admit that I am 100% a cat person, but she was so sweet, it was pretty much impossible not to be one over by her charms.

She's OK today--still tired, but she ate last night.

And she does have a way of charming even the most pet-disliking people, so cat people are a cinch.

Nakedness coupled with disorientation definately has got to be an unpleasant way to wake up. Even though you missed brunch, I still think it worked out well anyway. She's a delight to speak with and Miss Traddles is such a little sweetie. I'm not a dog person, but how could you not love her?

Haha, no truer words have been spoken. Perhaps Herself and I should create a photo essay of Spangel-love around NYC. Every week we can have them in a new location. Seeing them together like that was just too good a photo-op to miss.

Oh, pretty icon! *grabbie*

Sounds like a great day, sweetie. Hey, until I got a laptop, everything I wrote was in spiral notebooks. I filled two or three of them before I had a way to type them without putting them on the family computer (not a good idea!) I still use paper and pen sometimes - there's something relaxing about being able to write no matter where you are.
It was great meeting you-

Indeed, my outing with Herself was a great end to a fandom-filled weekend. It was wonderful to meet you, as well. And I completely agree about the notebooks. If you have an idea, you need to be able to jot it down no matter where you are. No better thing for that than paper and pen.

Great post, love the pictures!
Let's get together again soon, I really enjoyed hanging out with you.

Heh heh, your dolls have provided much entertainment. See Tam's comment and my response below:

Well, it's an idea. Perhaps you can have them crouched in the shrubbery somewhere in the Flower District or doing it doggie on top of a Muni Meter.

And we will absolutely get together again soon. It was wonderful getting the chance to talk, at last.

That sounds like fun! Let's do it next time we get together.

i wanted to (completely of the topic of your post except that it's fan-related) let you know that i'm planning on posting the next part of IATW as well as the next part of the f/g this week. i sent you the first half of ht IATW chapter and am using your feedback in the revision process, and, as always, am grateful for it.

i'm letting you know about the posting ahead of time because i don't want you to wonder why i haven't sent them your way. the main reason is my lack of internet access currently. i'm having a hard time just finding enough access to post the stories in the first place. it's not realistic right now to try to schedule addtional time to send the parts to you and to receive your notes about them.

i know as well that you're busy right now with work and your own writing projects. you dedicated a lot of time to part 10 of IATW, and at some point i have to just...y'know. write it and move forward. Close Your Eyes and Go (the f/g) has been such a writer's journy for me that outside feedback isn't something that feels important to the story. i'm not writing it to create a really good story (though i hope it doesn't suck, and i, personally, like it a great deal) but to try out new ways to write, new styles, new processes, like that.

mostly, i want you to know that you are still my beta (as long as you'll have me), and that i'm excited for a time upcoming when my resources better suppost out writing relationship. your feedback still lights my fire, and i admire you more and more the more i get to know you and your writing. my absence is in no way meant to convey a "backing off".

hope this is a little bit clear. long long day at the produce warehouse, followed by taking care of my kid plus a friend's kid, followed by making out with someone i really really shouldn't be making out with. ;okihrfg;iuawghf;iwuhefr;oih <----my brain explodes.

ClawofCat: faithbuffyclawofcat on July 8th, 2007 03:34 am (UTC)
Sweet! Can't wait to see the next part of IATW. I haven't had a chance yet to read the faith/giles, but when I do I'll leave some f/b. It's always exciting when you feel as though you've done something new. It's a point of pride just to know that you can IMO. Fanfic is there so you can experiment and it's a little disapointing when writers do the same old thing and don't take advantage of stretching. So, I completely support you trying out a new style and a different pairing.

I'm at your disposal S, so you send me something whenever it feels right. It's a privalege for me to get a sneak peek at your stuff, so I'm always up for it if you need me to look. The thought that you had "dumped me" had not even occurred to me.

Good luck with your week, tricky, and your libido. Not much has been going on in that department for 2 months, so it was titilating as hell when I rode the elevator in my building up and down five times making out and groping my b/f. All I can say is it's really unfair that they can just whip it out, whereas it's such a process to get at pussy on the sly, especially with pants.

Hi ~ Sounds like you had a wonderful time! I'm daaaaark green with jealousy! I just wanted to say that I've been following your fiction and have loved *every* word!! lol My favorite was Beneath Us which touched my heart. I love following your current stories and would be so happy if you would consider me as a "friend"! Thanks for your time! ~ Kelly

Hi there, hun. Very glad to see you pop up at my own LJ, since you always leave such thoughtful and detailed reviews. I'd love to have you as a friend =) I currently have a fic I'm trying to finish up on request from dreamsofspike, so hopefully I'll have something to post shortly. It's...er, well, if you've ever read anything of hers you get the idea. Not exactly what I'm used to doing, to say the least.
