JM Concert hits Farmingdale
I'm a few days late, but I thought I'd give an account of my excursion to Long Island as well as share piccies of all the amazing fandom people I met. First off let me just say that the experience was incredible and I was blown away by how many of the fandom showed up. By my count, there were 16 of us, including myself. Yep, the Spuffy shippers were definately representing on Saturday. Myself and jdkitchen(aka Lostboy) live in New York, so we hopped the LIRR out to Farmingdale to meet up with sevvy_o, (we went to college together and met in English class!), who kindly picked us up and gave us, as well as nyghtpet and denied_heaven a ride. We all converged at Applebee's, where we were joined by slaymesoftlyand seductivembrace who were at Fangoria the day before and had driven up all the way from Virginia. We ate some sub-par food, squeed a bit, and got to know each other before heading off 5 minutes down the road to The Crazy Donkey. The line was all the way out the door and snaked around the parking lot, but it turns out the show was definately not sold out and there was quite a lot of space to move about in the bar. We were soon joined by beanbeans, AmyB, uisge_beatha, prophecygirrl, and copykween.

I have to say, I was coaxed into going to this concert since I wasn't too interested in seeing JM, nor do I listen to his music. The draw was definately having the opportunity to meet my fellow writers. But at the end of the day, I gotta say that JM looked freakin' hot! Totally shattered my non-existant expectations. His singing was also quite a bit better than I would have thought. The tunes were catchy and he has a nice voice. Though I must admit the second performance that evening was not quite as good as the first. At one point while he was singing he sucked in his cheeks and did the Spike tongue-curl thing while he sang the lyrics "you make me want to be BAD." Seriously, mini-O right there. Oh God...

*Ahem* Anyway, after he was through and we were heading out to dinner, we ran into Niamh, addie_logan, and imbloodyenglish. I think Lostboy just about had a heart-attack he was so star struck. We all headed back out to Applebee's, with lostboy thrown into SpikeKat's trunk and had some dinner. LB also almost got kicked out. See his journal for more details. When we arrived back at the club for the evening show, my darling beta Eowyn315 finally arrived with two of her peeps from Philly after an 8 hour drive!! There were some serious delays, but we were all glad to see her in one piece and I know she was glad to see James' pieces, raowr!

More watching and talking ensued, and after the show sevvy_odrove LB and myself, plus three other random girls back to the train. This time, LB was stretched across our laps in the back seats due to space limitations. It also turns out that one of the girls we went back with was a self-proclaimed dominatrix - awesome, I live for stuff like that.

Concert piccies!

There are more pictures, but photobucket is being a testy bitch and these are all the important ones anyway...Enjoy!

Hey, thanx for the piccies, I finally get to put faces to a lot of authors I admire :)

Right now I'm a very becoming shade of green. Good thing I look good in green, coz every time there's a get together like these I go that colour :P

Aw, maybe on the next con you'll get a chance to go. I never would have driven the distance that some did for this. Luckily, it was really close to where I live, so it wasn't much of a hassle for me. Do you live near any major cities where you might have the opportunity to sneak a peek of him?

You know, it was sort of funny when we all first met. When Slayme was introducing a few people she referred to them by their real names. When Jarod and I stood there, stared and scratched our heads, she told us their fandom names, and then it was like "OH!"

No, living in Spain sometimes sucks. One of these days I'll see if I can get to see him in England, now that we have these cheap flights...

Tjat use to happen to me when I went to my chat gatherings. Until someone told us their nicks, and then we found out we'd talked for hours on the internet XD

Glad you enjoyed your JM experience. He may not have the best voice in the world or even sing the kind of music that you (generic 'you' that is) like but he's not disappointed me yet.
ClawofCat: Spike peersclawofcat on July 4th, 2007 03:55 am (UTC)
Oh, I don't think he disappointed one woman in the house! The only person able to resist his charms, which was mostly due to the fact that the draw of alcohol was more attractive instead, was Lostboy. Heh, at one point he threw up his hands and started screaming along with us. He was such a good sport.

Heh! That's cute. Mind you, I've seen a few JM fanboys in my time too.

Thanks for the pics. Do you mind if I snag the one of Amy, Kat, Sevvy and me? Not sure what I will do with it, but I'd like to have it on my HD.
ClawofCat: Spike peersclawofcat on July 4th, 2007 03:56 am (UTC)
Of course, Patti. Snag away! It's what they're there for.

LOL your non-existent expectations. I'm so glad you had fun!! Loooved the pictures, I'm snagging a few. =)
ClawofCat: Spike peersclawofcat on July 4th, 2007 03:57 am (UTC)
Oh yes, please do. Snag away. And when you upload yours, lets see 'em. Hopefully your James pics weren't as sad and blurry as mine =(

Even if it wasn't for the concert I would have loved to meet some writers. Thanks for sharing the pics! There was indeed a car plate *Spangel*? I guess (s)he was at the concert too. *gg*
ClawofCat: Spike peersclawofcat on July 4th, 2007 04:02 am (UTC)
Yeah, for me, it was all about the people connection. It's so cool to chat with these "strangers" online and then finally meet them in person. I hope the pics sort of indirectly acted as an "introduction" for you. Who doesn't want to get to know their favorite authors?

That Spangel license plate rocked my socks! I don't know who it belonged to, but the car was parked in such a way that it faced the line of JM enthusiasts as they waited to get into the bar. It was rather hard to miss and we all flocked to get a picture with it.

Psst! Amy and Niamh both have LJs, if you're interested. Amybnnyc and Tangwstyl. I haven't checked Amy's in a long while, but I do know that Niamh posts some fic on her LJ whenever she has something.

lol, I think you might have been one of the first people to friend me when I created this journal and this is the first time you've made a peep. Many thanks for de-lurking and sharing the info! I will have to check out their journals. I've read both their work either at their own sites or archives.
Basiliobasilio_the_cat on July 4th, 2007 08:15 am (UTC)
Oh, really? Sorry about that. I'm not much of a commenter...
ClawofCat: Spike peersclawofcat on July 4th, 2007 05:21 pm (UTC)
Oh, it's totally cool. I was a lurker for many years until I actually got LJ. Didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable. It's just always nice to get to know people on the flist.

i have jealous. i'm totally with you on the whole starstruck deal involved with the idea of meeting fanfic authors you admire. there are quite a few i can think of off the top of the head that i think would render me absolutly stupid if i were to meet them face to face.

how fun. pictures were the bomb to look at.

Hee, yeah, it was good times. You should check out sevvy_o's journal for more and better pics of everyone. While I was there I was thinking who else I would love to meet, and you were definately at the top of my wish list. Maybe at some point in time when things are easier I'll come out and pay you a visit. Though, if you ever came to New York, I think you would freakin' love it. I could definately see you living here. I think I would also flip out to meet dreamsofspike and shapinglight. I love those two. *hugs* The fandom rocks and so do you.
