Title: Lookers for Hookers
Rating: PG-13ish
Pairing/Character(s): Buffy, Anya
Setting: During S6's Doublemeat Palace
Word count: 860 words
Summary: Anya comes up with a far more lucrative job opportunity for Buffy during S6.

Author's note: Heh. While context isn't needed to read this, it is amusing. [info]sueworld2003 shared a pretty headdesk-worthy example of a fan's wrongness. My first reaction was sheer WTFery. After that passed, though, I had to laugh (to keep from crying, I suppose). And then I was inspired to write a fic about it. Since I'm using Anya, this isn't quite as crack!fic as I'd intended it to be. I hope it amuses. :)

For a number of years now, everyone at my work has had to write a yearly PPDP - or "Personal Professional Development Plan".

...finally, someone decided that this was a stupid title.

So they renamed it. This year, we have to write a "Personal Management System".

(And no-one noticed the acronym. No-one.)

I keep getting emails from my boss asking how my PMS is going. It's starting to weird me out...

So there was a secret posted on [info]fandomsecrets that spoke to the Spuffy lover within. I commented with enthusiasm, fully anticipating to be one of the few who supported the OP's statement. And, surprise surprise, I was right.

But that's not the point. That I was expecting, because I get it. Fanon and all-human fics are pretty much frowned upon by canon purists. That's old news, and quite frankly, I'm not interested in digging up old wanks because - hey - been there, done that, and I have far too many t-shirts to prove it.

Just for a recap, even though 98% of my work has been within the Jossverse (though I liberally toss in fanon sprinkles), I love me some all-human AU, and I know where to go to get the good stuff. Yes, I'm looking at you, [info]dampersnspoons, [info]dusty273, [info]addie_logan, [info]okdeanna, [info]_a_s_h_l_e_e_, [info]angelic_amy, facingthesun, and even older fics by kantayra...and if I keep looking through my faves, I'll never get to the point. If I didn't mention you, I'm sorry...I just wanted to get this out. I love the AH writers on my flist!

Point being: liking AH isn't bad or wrong. Yes, there is a plenty of terrible fic out there written from the AH perspective, but that doesn't make the really STELLAR work bad by default. It likewise implies all canonical fiction is superb, and we know that isn't the case. And I can't tell you how peeved I get when some jackass asserts that personal preference in fanfiction is wrong, and the person should feel ashamed for having a kink. Look, love or loathe ANY kind of fic, just don't go around telling others they are wrong for what they like. That's just petty, and makes you kind of a tool.

No, strike that. It makes you a tool, no 'kind of' about it.

A small note: the author of the comment to which I linked also asserted AH fics aren't popular in the BtVS fandom. I offered a counterpoint in the form of links and the like, but the screencap suggests the author of the original secret was a Spuffy fan. Are AH fics limited to the Spuffy section of fandom?

Eh. I think I'll just go write some TWotW.

copied from metafandom - I'm sure the discussion that followed this was good, and the one that came after which sounded really interesting about how female slash writers put a feminine spin on that fic. However, I have yet to figure out how one gets to the whole discussion, so all I see are the bits that get posted on metafandom's lj. Anyway, here is what caught my eye tonight:

niqaeli: how (not) to write smut that doesn't leave me dashing for IM to torment my friends with - Describing just the physical actions is... well. Yeah. It's mechanical. Mechanical isn't generally sexy. And when you focus solely on describing the action, it is really, really easy to end up at terrible and unfortunate places. If you make a point of focusing on the people and their motivations and headspace(s), even if you stumble, it is probably going to be a lot, lot better. -

Good thoughts to keep in mind when writing smut - the emotional connection between the characters is usually much sexier than what they're actually doing.

MILITARY MAN: All right, calm down! Calm down! Now, when I say calm down, I'm talkin' to you, of course. These guys I want wound good and tight, case you don't feel like listenin'. Sit down, son. We need to talk. You ever considered joinin' the war effort?

ANGEL: (shrugs) No.

MILITARY MAN: Well, that's a shame. Times like these, we can use all the able-bodied men we can get.

ANGEL: I'm not a man. I guess you already knew that.

MILITARY MAN: Everybody's gotta do his part. That's all I'm sayin'.

Tis the season! For all the non-believers on my flist...

1. Atheism leaves a man to sense, to philosophy, to natural piety, to laws, to reputation; all of which may be guides to an outward moral virtue, even if religion vanished; but religious superstition dismounts all these and erects an absolute monarchy in the minds of men. – Francis Bacon

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a spuffy fic where Spike and Buffy are turned into children. Joyce is alive and called on by Xander to look after the 'children' because she is a mum. Spike and Buffy end up tying Anya to a chair because she is mean to them.

Any ideas?

Interesting post here that's sort of both a reaction to Joss' recent interview and an analysis of Dollhouse. I think it identifies some good points about why the show failed to connect with an audience.
