Sickbed take 3
Saturday afternoon I started to get a scratchy throat and a cough, which then morphed into an even worse cough and a low grade fever by Sunday, and then a 102 degree fever on Monday. This is the third time I've been quite sick in the last four months and each time it's gone straight to my lungs. Something is definately amiss. I spent all afternoon at my GP yesterday getting tested and taking a chest xray. And then all evening sweating and trying not to feel like I was going to spontaneously combust. I've had no appetite and have already lost 3 pounds. I feel a little better today - the  fever seems to have broken - and am back to antibiotics. I have an appointment with a pulminologist tomorrow, so I hopefully he can get to the bottom of this.

I've been sleeping for the most part, but have some betaing I need to do, not to mention plenty of work cut out for me on my SS and IWRY stories. I have zero interest in working on them at the moment though. Mostly just want to lay in bed and feel pathetic.

This weekend buffyversetop5 hosted their Classic Recs session. I always love compiling esoteric lists and managed to post 7 of them for the round. Check them out - I've added them to my memories. I think my favorites were "5 Fics Featuring AtS Female Characters (Because They Rock)" and "5 Fics That Explore the Different Facets of Dawn."

Although I didn't do anything for Halloween, I did go to work in costume on Friday. I know a number of people on my flist are "Mad Men" fans and so are a bunch of my co-workers, so I got together this awesome vintage outfit very much in the spirit of the show and went in as a 50s office worker. Suit courtesy of my grandmother. Check out pics under the cut. It should be obvious by now that where there's an oppoortunity to dress up, I do.

You look fabulous! I'm imagining you with Joan's perfectly styled hair. Where did they find the time to do their hair back then?

Thanks! It was a lot of fun getting into character. I usually wear my hair down with minimal make-up, so I was pretty surprised how much time it took to get my hair into the bun, spray it, and do the make-up. I would never have the patience to deal with it normally, low maintanence girl that I am. I think the whole get-up actually made me look much older (or should I say "mature") and classier than I usually appear.

Joan is a total sex bomb. I only watched about the first 8 eps of "Mad Men", and had a really hard time getting into the characters, but I loved her right off the bat. Fierce!

Where did they find the time to do their hair back then?

They didn't have the internet.

*hugs* Hope you feel better soon.

Your costume is super cute. =)

Me, too! I'm getting really tired of being sick all the time.

And thanks. I had a lot of fun compiling it. Everyone at work loved it, so it well worth the effort.

Hope you feel better and stay germ free.

Your costume and look are terrific. You seem like a time traveler. I've never seen 'Mad Men'. Maybe I'll try to get it from Netflix.

Thanks. It seems like it's just about that time to start wearing a scary surgical mask. And to think it's barely even the start of winter.

And thanks for the kudos on the costume. I thought I did a good job channeling the era. What was fun about it was my co-workers weren't exactly sure if it was a costume or I just looked really nice. Fun with clothes. My favorite pasttime.

I'm not actually a 'Mad Men' fan myself. I had a really hard time getting into the show, but most people I know really love it.

...

Well... if nothing else you lost 3 pounds. And much needed time away from work, despite the circumstances.

And of course, you rocked the outfit. I was so afraid to touch you and mess it up... or it would've been my head.

When I saw this comment I was thinking "Who the hell is this anonymous commenter?" and then it was like, "Oh. Duh." What brings you to my piece of the internet? Not our usual medium of communication.

if nothing else you lost 3 pounds.
A nice side effect, I suppose. My fever made me think of your fever, but that was, like, depilitatingly bad. I wouldn't have wanted that.

And much needed time away from work, despite the circumstances.
It wasn't even productive time away from work though. I haven't done any writing or editing. Just been sick in bed sleeping. Not fun. I'll probably go in to the office after my doc appointment tomorrow morning though. Checked my work email and saw that Cirque sent me an invitation to the opening night of Wintuk next week at MSG. That was pretty sweet!

Yeah... it's good that you didn't end up like me. Nothing like the mother of all runs to ruin a weekend. Albeit, your weekend might have been ruined, at least you were blessed with not spending it on the can.

And as for the tix, I hope they're comp'ed. Cause if they are, well that would make it awesome-er.

Sick again?? Is your immune system in some kind of competition with mine to see which one can suck more? I'm just waiting to get swine flu now. That will just take the cake.
ClawofCat: Seriously?clawofcat on November 4th, 2009 03:40 am (UTC)
Dude, for reals. I should just get a surgical mask now and call it a day. You get points for longevity on evil bug, and I get points for frequency. Did the results come back from the colonscopy? Did they find out what's going on?
eowyn_315: bad dayeowyn_315 on November 4th, 2009 03:36 pm (UTC)
Nope, no results yet. I have an appointment next week, where hopefully they will be able to tell me something. In the meantime, it seems like things are getting worse again, so I may be back on the all-cracker diet until they figure out what's wrong.

You look fabulous.

Feel better. (I completely understand the fear of catching something worse.)

Sorry for the ridiculously belated response. Just catching up on comments now.

I do feel lots better. I've been taking a steroid inhalent that's helped with the inflammation in my lungs and my coughing is down to a minimum now. Here's hoping I get more than a month reprieve between now and the next sickness.

You look great. I am from the 50's and remember the more glamorous look of the rich and famous. The rest of us wore pale pink lipstick in the day time and very little eye make up. (Didn't want to look like "easy" women, you know.) And fixing your hair was a night before and at least 45 minutes every morning affair. Still, you carry off this look marvelously.

Get well soonest.

Thanks! It was great fun dolling myself up. It's amazing what a little hair and make up can do to make you look different.

Very interesting thoughts regarding your memories of the 50s look. I didn't realize heavier make-up would have come across as slutty. Hm. And the time it took for the hair is crazy! I'm a brush it out and go type of girl, so having to labor over setting it and styling it would have driven me bonkers. I'd get too impatient.

Wow! o.O You look gorgeous! Sorry to hear your sick, though. :-/

Hee, thank you. I always enjoy dressing up. It's great fun to transform yourself and see the changes that come of it.

I can happily report that the sicknses has dissipated and I'm left with a cough only here and there. The inhaler they gave me is doing its magic.

pictures are fab; everyone here has swine flu (like seriously 3/4 of the people i know, i think because there was an out break with 34 confirmed cases at the state fair in september and it's still floating around). tricky and i luckily have steel immune systems, so we've been fine and dandy, at least on that front.

wish you well, sweet.

My response is belated as fuck, but there you go. Glad you like the pics.

I'm gonna call you in a minute to see how the fic goes. *hugs*

You look amazing!!

Hope you're feeling better by now or at least knowing for sure what's wrong!!

I've been away for a while (trip to France, mum booting me off the puter all the time, back in NZ now in my own house (without a man telling me off cos I haven't done the dishes yet) and loving it).

*huggles*
ClawofCat: spikesmilesclawofcat on November 14th, 2009 07:32 pm (UTC)
Thanks! Dressing up is possibly one of my favorite things to do. I love seeing how different I can get myself to look.

And am feeling a lot better. Thanks for asking. A visit to the pulminologist shortly after this post revealed that I don't have pneumonia or any infiltrate in my lungs, but that I did have this acute inflammation that never healed after each successive bout of sickness. It was exacerbating my cough. So they put me on steroid inhalents and that's been working really well. I have a follow up appointment this coming week.

And congratulations on your life changes. It sounds like the split from your husband and some much needed time away with your kiddies and families did the trick. We all need some revitalization. Hope things will run smoothly from here on out. It's good to see you back!
dragonflylady77: fall strange pairdragonflylady77 on November 16th, 2009 06:36 am (UTC)
I'm glad to hear the treatment is working!!

Things are going ok so far, he did my lawns before taking the kids to his house for the next two nights. We talked about Christmas and he agreed with my plan (I'm no longer invited to his family's Christmas, even though they're the only family I have in this country and have been for the past 8 years) so yay.

*smoochies*
